Easy Ways to Stop Bleeding from cuts and Prevent Infection at Home

When living in places without electricity or a health facility, it is important to know how to care for a cut using simple and safe methods. By following basic steps, you can help stop bleeding, prevent infection, and support healing using what is available around you. Below are 10 steps you can follow to treat a cut safely at home.

1️⃣ Wash the cut gently with clean water (boiled and cooled if possible) to remove dirt and germs.

2️⃣ Use clean cloth, plant leaves, or your hand to apply gentle pressure to stop the bleeding.

3️⃣ Clean the area around the cut with salt water or clean coconut water if available.

4️⃣ Cover the cut with a clean cloth, bark cloth, or soft clean leaf to protect it.

5️⃣ If bleeding continues, keep pressing gently and raise the injured part above heart level.

6️⃣ Change the covering daily, and clean the wound each time to keep it free from dirt.

7️⃣ If you see signs of infection (swelling, pus, bad smell, or increasing pain), clean more often.

8️⃣ Rest the injured body part and avoid using it too much until the cut heals.

9️⃣ Keep the wound dry and away from dirty water or soil to prevent infection.

🔟 If the cut is deep or does not stop bleeding after a long time, seek help from a health worker as soon as possible.
