Inclusive Dialogue at WASH Program Advances Health Outcomes in PNG

The PNG WASH Consortium successfully concluded a three-day Knowledge and Learning program in the nation’s capital, bringing together a wide range of stakeholders and partners. The event, held from July 2nd to July 4th, featured presentations from participants who shared ideas, information, and strategies to improve health outcomes through inclusive, equitable, and climate-resilient water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) initiatives across Papua New Guinea.

A major topic of discussion was climate-resilient WASH interventions, focusing on equitable access for women and marginalized communities. Attendees emphasized the importance of collaboration and shared learning to address these challenges effectively.

The program was supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) through the Water for Women (WFW) initiative. Participants included WASH Project coordinators and officers from the four consortium partners: World Vision (Markham), WaterAid (NCD), Plan International (AROB), and Live & Learn (Kavieng).

Key government stakeholders were also present, including representatives from the National Department of Health, Markham District administration, New Ireland District administration, Motu Koita Assembly, and the ABG Education Advisor. Additionally, the East Sepik Council of Women and the East Sepik Disabled Peoples Association were represented, ensuring a comprehensive and inclusive dialogue on advancing WASH goals in PNG.

The event was hailed as a significant step forward in the collective effort to enhance WASH services in the country, particularly for vulnerable populations.
