Clinics to offer free tests

TEAMS will be stationed at main urban clinics in Port Moresby to conduct free blood pressure and sugar level checks next week.
This will be part of a week programme organised by the National Capital District Health Services (NCDHS) to mark World Diabetes Day on Nov 14.
NCDHS director public health Dr Niko Wuatai appealed to the general public to observe the day and take ownership of such opportunities to check their blood pressure and sugar levels.
“Diabetes is a big health problem in the country. As we are talking, there are people on treatment, therefore it is important to check your blood pressure and sugar levels,” he said.
“I urge people to visit their nearest clinic any time next week and make use of the free service that we will be providing because from the check people will have the chance to go through a proper referral system.”
He said they had a team that would be visiting corporate entities like PNG Ports Corporation and PNG Power Ltd, who have requested checks for their employees.
Wuatai said NCDHS was teaming up with City Pharmacy Limited and other businesses houses to commemorate World Diabetes Day
